The Mystery of the (A) in the original Modesty Blaise

By the mid-1970s, the newspaper strip Modesty Blaise was already firmly established and had become a major success thanks to the outstanding work of Peter O’Donnell and Enric Badia Romero. If we examine the original strips, we can see that they were numbered consecutively, although some included the letter “A” alongside their numbering.

Starting in 1974, due to the series’ popularity, certain newspapers, particularly in the United States, began publishing an additional strip on Saturdays. To meet this demand, special original strips were created that did not advance the main storyline and could stand entirely on their own.

These unusual supplementary strips were produced specifically for the Saturday editions of selected newspapers and showcased Enric Badia Romero’s artwork at its finest.
