“Àngel Badia Camps proved to be one of the best, with a loose, expressive line and a sophisticated sense of composition. Although many of the Spanish artists were very young, they had a surprising understanding of anatomy and a very modern sophistication that made British artists look outdated.” David Roach
Badia Camps drew romantic comics for British magazines, although he also worked on other genres such as swashbuckling adventures and action stories. In Spain, most of his work appeared in magazines published by Editorial Ricart and Editorial Bruguera, the latter featuring adaptations of classic literature.
He also stood out as an excellent illustrator and cover artist, whether for westerns, romance, horror, or mystery novels. His covers for the Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators series, published by Editorial Molino, are particularly well remembered. Camps mastered the drawing of the female figure with great virtuosity.
In his later years, he devoted himself to painting, focusing on the human figure and, to a lesser extent, still lifes and landscapes.
“I’m in an American yearbook of the best artists of the sixties. We had great success—not just me, but Longarón, Miralles… There were many of us. We did it very well.” Badia Camps
