Jano
Francisco Fernández-Zarza Pérez, known as Jano, was a draftsman and illustrator of thousands of film hand-drawn movie posters, both for foreign and Spanish movies.
In his early years he signed his work as Fernández Pérez; he began using the name “Jano” in 1943. In the 1950s he worked as a cover artist for novels and comic books, creating striking covers for the El Coyote novels by J. Mallorquí and for series such as Flash Gordon, The Prince Valiant, and Rip Kirby. He was also recognized during that decade for his illustrations for the magazine Chicas.
He mastered caricature and produced magnificent illustrations of numerous performers, such as José Luis López Vázquez, José Isbert, and Fernando Fernán Gómez, in films of all genres.
He created more than 2,000 film posters and one-sheets. A legend in the history of Spanish hand-drawn movie poster art.
