Carrillo

“In terms of the script, I’ll tell you that it is as important as the drawing. A comic strip, to become a masterpiece, must bring together artistic intuition, technique, and script, all of great quality.” Interview by Manuel Darias with Carrillo (Diario de Avisos, 1975)

Antonio Pérez-García, known as Carrillo, has taken us on great adventures across the seas of China, Oriental countries, and exotic lands simply by reading his comics published in almost every corner of the world. Captain Pantera in a realistic style in 1975 and in a semi-comic style in 1983, his most famous work; Gora Gopal (1972) and The Mercenaries (1975) are there to prove it. Classic adventures with one-piece heroes accompanied by resolute and robust women. Carrillo is one of our great cartoonists, mastering the human figure in both realistic and comic styles, and one thing is certain—his drawn women are always beautiful.

He also drew comics with female characters in the humorous or spicy vein, such as Martita y su papuchi o Las Chicas de Carrillo. His vignettes in the crime genre entertained many in the sixties in magazines like Brigada Secreta and Espionaje. He created many children’s and youth comics like The Cases of Ching Chong, Kala Bacín de Damasco included in magazines like Zipi y Zape for Bruguera in the eighties. In recent times, he drew comics for the Disney factory and adapted classic tales from universal literature, like these beautiful originals available.
