Lassiter is the tough protagonist of a series of novels that began in 1972. Set in the Wild West, they enjoyed great success in Germany for nearly 40 years. The stories combined adventure, violence, and a touch of sex. The first novels were of American origin and were written by Jack Slade (a pseudonym of Willis Todhunter Ballard). When the German publisher bought the license and the series became a success, more novels began to be produced by anonymous German writers, while keeping that same name.
Some authors wrote more than 500 titles, such as Günter Bajog, while others worked on the series for nearly eight years, such as Martin Barkawitz. Many of the covers were created by the artist Rafael Cortiella.
